RIAS Award for Boreraig Longhouse

RIAS Award for Boreraig Longhouse

The house at Boreraig by Dualchas Architects has won an inaugural RIAS Award at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton hotel in Glasgow.  This is the latest recognition for the building after winning a Scottish Design Award last month.

Speaking at the event, RIAS Secretary Neil Baxter said, “This new home is deceptively simple in form, a calm, contemplative space. The external timber ensures that the building does not intrude upon its natural setting. To keep the building low it consists of three separate elements: living, bedrooms and studio. The same restraint and reliance on natural materials is evident in the uncluttered interiors of Caithness stone and oak.”

Picking up the plaque and certificate on behalf of the practice Neil Stephen, the project architect said, " We are delighted for the client and contractor for receiving this award.  Quite complex detailing was required in order to make the building work.  This required patience and skill from the contractor and a real commitment to the end product from the client."

The building has now been shortlisted for the Andrew Doolan architecture award.  This £25,000 prize for the best building in Scotland will be announced in the autumn.
