HebHomes is pleased to introduce full-height glazed gables as a new design option for suitable homes and sites.
A glazed gable can create a dramatic double-height living space, drawing natural light deep into the house while opening up exceptional views. The glazing follows the pitch of the roof and is set back behind projecting walls and eaves, creating depth, shelter and a strong architectural frame.
However, a glazed gable will not be right for every project. Its suitability will depend on the house type, orientation, exposure, privacy, planning context and the quality of the view. Solar gain, winter heat loss and the additional structural requirements must also be carefully considered.
Compared with a standard gable window, this option requires additional glazing, structural steel, engineering, energy assessment and bespoke detailing. It will therefore add to both the cost and programme of a project.
Our design team will assess each request individually. Where a glazed gable would genuinely improve the house and respond well to its setting, we can incorporate it at an early stage in the design process. Where it would add cost without delivering a clear benefit, we may recommend one of our standard large-window arrangements instead.
The best HebHomes are shaped by their location. This new option gives clients with the right site and outlook another way to make the most of Scotland’s remarkable landscapes.
