Tiree SIPs kit completed

Set against the wild beauty of Isle of Tiree, this new four-bedroom longhouse has been carefully designed to respond to both its landscape and climate. Timber clad and low in form, the 1.5-storey home sits hunkered into its stone base, offering shelter from Tiree’s relentless Atlantic winds while remaining firmly connected to the surrounding coastline.

Inspired by the simplicity and resilience of traditional Hebridean buildings, the house combines robust natural materials with contemporary living. Its elongated form frames expansive views to the sea, while generous glazing draws light deep into the interior and creates a constant connection to the changing skies and shoreline beyond.

The stone plinth anchors the building to the site, grounding it within the rugged landscape, while the warm timber cladding will weather naturally over time, allowing the home to settle gently into its environment. Inside, four bedrooms and open-plan living spaces provide a calm, comfortable retreat designed for modern island life.

Balancing shelter, simplicity and openness, the project reflects a contemporary interpretation of the Scottish longhouse, rooted in place, responsive to climate, and shaped by the extraordinary setting of Tiree.
